Forgot to mention that I’m heading up to Toronto for TCAF tomorrow. Sam Brown should be there too. More of us would be, but I spaced out on the planning because I was teaching this semester. We will be on display like meat on Saturday.

Vegetarian BRATWURST? What the hell?

Wednesday, May 25th, 2005

I’ve been harping for months about how I decided to not die of a heart attack at age 30 and stopped eating meat. I guess I am a vegetarian for lack of a better word. I’ve managed to go about 98% veggie, falling off the wagon only occasionally and under stress or on trips.

My weakness is hot dogs.

The problem is that veggie hot dogs kind of suck. There’s not enough texture in a hot dog to begin with, so something that is slightly off is really noticeable. The lack of any oils really leaves them dry to my tastes as well. I can’t hang with most veggie dogs. How do we get around this Sausage Sword of Damocles?

I have discovered Veggie Bratwurst and Declare them To Be Good. I went through a whole package of them today with mustard on simple wheat bread. Wow. My world is once again in color. I have sausages in my mouth!
